Creole Anisette for Pomba Gira

One of Pomba Gira's standard offerings is Anisette. Here is a recipe for Anisette that you can make yourself from the recipe file of my auntie who introduced me to the crossroads spirits many, many years ago. She always said the spirits like it when we take the time to make their offerings and give us extra blessings when we do.

She always said true Anisette doesn't have any licorice in it like some people think. It's the aniseed that gives it is unique flavor. This recipe make a strong liqueur so be careful if you plan on imbibing a little yourself.

Creole Anisette

10 drops of oil of Aniseed
3 pints of alcohol
4 cups of the finest white clarified loaf sugar
1 1/4 pints of water

Make a syrup with the water and sugar and clarify. When cold, add the aniseed oil, which has been well dissolved in the alcohol. Mix all well, filter, and bottle tightly. Keep in a cool, shady place.

Amplify Your Sensuality with a Pomba Gira Sachet

To celebrate and amplify your own sultry demeanor, create a fragrant, dry botanical sachet using some of Pomba Gira’s herbs infused with perfume and oils. Use the sachet to scent clothes and linen on shelves and in drawers and suitcases or simply keep on your altar or even in your pillowcase. If possible, create this sachet during a full moon on a Friday. Use the following ingredients:

  • cassia
  • cinnamon
  • anise
  • star anise
  • rose petals
  • pinch of crossroads dirt obtained from a three-way crossroads (leave a coin and some tobacco in exchange)

Add your favorite sweet perfume along with 3 drops of rose oil. Wrap everything in a red fabric bag tied with red and black ribbon. Enjoy!

Welcome to Crossroads Mojo!

Welcome to our new blog! We will be posting information related to our products and services as well as announcements and information related to the crossroads Spirits we honor.

The first thing we would like to point out to you is the development of new informational pages at crossroadsmojo.com of the various Crossroads Spirits. Our first page is devoted to Pomba Gira and features an excerpt from Hoodoo and Conjure Quarterly  #2 written by the Crossroads Mamas called Pomba Gira, The Enchantress of Brazilian Quimbanda. If you haven't gotten the latest issue of HCQ #2 yet, check it out. If you have gotten your copy, you should still check it out for more information about this powerhouse Spirit.

Pomba Gira is a spirit that is easy to relate to in that her imagery in her many manifestations is related to the everyday animal instincts and desires of people (vices, lust, indulgences, etc). She is very human, with concerns of the flesh and material nature, and shares in our human weaknesses. Pomba Gira, as well as the many Exus, are often considered amoral because they will fight the fight of justice and will destroy enemies without concern for morality and do so with complete and utter self-service in mind. This is one reason why she is considered by some to be dangerous to work with because she is called upon by people of varying moralities. The person who works with her can energize her dangerous nature or her helpful nature, depending on how she is petitioned and which path is petitioned. (Alvarado & Angelique, 2012).

Til next time, see you at the crossroads!
